    A. Enemy Forces
    • The Japanese Imperial Army maintains control of former Philippine Scouts Base Kampo Amihan converted into a POW Camp called “Kampo Kamatayan” (Death Camp) by locals, housing an estimated 15+ Allied prisoners, mostly American intelligence officers and specialists from the Bataan Death March.
    • Estimated 200–250 Japanese troops in and around Kampo Amihan and Kidlat, with additional elements in surrounding towns outside the main battle area.
    • Enemy patrols active along the river town axis. Reinforcements from nearby units possible within 24–36 hours once alerted.

    • Filipino Guerrilla Forces in Camp Liberty.

    D. Terrain and Weather
    • Hills and triple canopy jungle dominate area around camp. Risk of detection is relatively low.
    • Moonlit nights increasing visibility; vegetation provides moderate to high concealment.

  2. Mission
6th Ranger Battalion, supported by Alamo Scouts and Filipino guerrillas, will conduct a night raid on the Japanese POW camp at Cabanatuan NLT 30 January 1945 in order to rescue Allied prisoners of war, prevent their execution, and return them safely to friendly lines.

  3. Execution
    A. Commander’s Intent
Disrupt enemy hold over American POWs, demonstrate operational reach and precision, and galvanize Filipino-American cooperation. Mission success is the safe extraction of POWs with minimal casualties.
    B. Concept of Operations
    • Phase I: Infiltration. Rangers move behind enemy lines by foot with guerrilla guides. Alamo Scouts conduct early reconnaissance of camp and screening with guerillas as guides.
    • Phase II: Assault. Guerillas and Alamo Scouts attack Kampo Kidlat to prevent reinforcements of IJA forces towards Kampo Amihan. Ranger and Guerilla assault Kampo Amihan in conjunction with on Kampo Kidlat. Both assaults are to be coordinated accordingly. Once Kampo Kidlat is cleared, Alamo Scouts and Guerillas are to maintain a blocking force to further isolate any IJA forces coming towards Kampo Amihan.
    • Phase III: Rescue. POWs assembled, medical support rendered, and withdrawal begins. March north towards Sitio Magiliw and rendezvous with US 6th Army troops.
    C. Coordinating Instructions
    • Maintain absolute silence and signals discipline during infiltration.
    • Civilians may be engaged for passive support only via guerrilla intermediaries.
